The Spanish artist Kiko Miyares holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country (UPV), class of 2002. His artistic, exhibition, and professional career began in Vizcaya, where he participated in various solo and group exhibitions.
Initially trained in painting, he shifted his focus to sculpture in 2004, thanks to a grant from the Bilbao Arte Foundation. From then on, he continued exploring different types of wood, applying polychromy and shaping human forms—mainly heads—which he subjected to twisting, deformation, and proportional alterations.
Since 2012, he has been particularly interested in visual perception, the ability to see, and the limits of vision, which he plays with in his representations. To achieve the desired visual effects, he relies on technology, though each piece is crafted manually and artisanal, enhancing the richness of the work through the material’s imperfections and the technique itself.
