ABOUT SIXE PAREDE.

Sergio Hidalgo Paredes, also known as SIXEART, better known as the artist SIXE PAREDES, was born in 1975 in Barcelona.

He began his artistic career in the world of graffiti at the end of the 80s and it has been evolving and transforming. In his investigative quest to go further, he began to experiment in the mid-90s with other artistic formats such as painting, sculpture and installation.

This is how, at the end of the 90s, he settled in his own workshop developing a work that will define him as a plastic artist in what is currently an abstract universe of color endowed with shapes and symbols that shows a very personal aesthetic that he does quickly visually recognizable and make up their own unique identity and artistic originality. An evolution that has led him to develop an abstraction that relies on a very diverse and intense color palette, with complex symbolism and a meticulous mastery of geometric shapes, which sometimes includes numerical cryptography, which, by way of what He calls himself “circuits” and makes the viewer “connect” with another, deeper reality.

Meanwhile, and up to the present time, he continues his artistic career combining both the public and the intimate, through artistic interventions in the street and constant work in his studio.

In the same way, that in Sixe a look at the artistic tradition converges, specifically Catalan, where artists such as Antoni Tàpies or Joan Miró are direct influences and of which he is heir, in addition and since approximately 2009, other influences are generated that give a twist to the artist’s work.

Due to his repeated contact with Peru, Sixe begins to travel through this country, immersing himself in its culture and working with local artisans whose ancient techniques in ceramics and looms are almost extinct. This contact supposes a change of discourse in his work, and he begins to develop a style in which the learned tradition merges with a contemporary perspective. Thus arises what Sixe himself has defined as “Ancestral Futurism”, a tribute to primitive cultures in search of the essential, mixing past and present. His metaphorical and reflective work arises from personal experiences and not from an imitation attitude, seeking to show other realities or ways of perceiving reality from a deep and mystical conception. The mixture of these different styles and elements is what makes his work have a unique aesthetic.

It is not only that through animal forms, human representations or ancestral figures, they use their own language and symbols to explore the primordial, but it brings us closer to social processes that occurred in ancient times and that are repeated today because they are intrinsic to humanity, to the deepest and most universal essence of the human being, in all times and places. Using his own abstract and pictorial language, Sixe reinvents a new idea of ancestral connections. He perceives the experience of reality in a unique way, transforming reality and turning it into something new and universal in his works.

He is an artist whose work represents one of the most notable Spanish references in terms of urban art. His work has been exhibited in spaces and galleries around the world, as well as top-level institutions such as the British National Museum of Modern Art “Tate Modern” located in central London. Sixe Paredes was one of six artists who painted the facade of the Tate Modern in 2008 in the groundbreaking “Street Art” wall painting exhibition. Despite his constant investigative work, he has never abandoned the activity that sparked his creativity, public art. There are numerous festivals, biennials and urban art projects that feature the artist today. Without a doubt, Sixe Paredes is a visual artist and a master of urban art, who has managed to take the discourse of the street to a deeper level. This Catalan artist, claimed on the five continents, continues to travel with his work around the world today.
