It´s hard to live off art and be successful, above all nowdays when less and less in invested in art and sometimes we forget the important paper that art has in society. Howeber, Pablo Merchante has made of 2020 a successful and satisfying year professionally. He has got stand out from others and add new awards to his collection.
Daniel Vázquez Díaz scholarchip were created to foment andalusian artista creations, to raise the value of art, to reconoise artists works and to give them an help to make their projects. This year the scholarship has been for Pablo Merchant and his project, called It says brief but it is eternal. Pablo has been chosen out of 61 projects unanimously.
The project of Pablo – as the artista has said – wants to show the actual situation that the pandemic has brought and the social and personal consecuences. “Thinking about what it is happening nowdays, it is important that not only journalists and politics give their opinions, it is important a voice from art, give a creative and artistic opinion of events.
To make this project, Pablo has used a concept from Michel Houllebecq called “home automation happiness” (happiness of animals, who produce it quickly, they don´t need a lot of things to feel happiness). Merchante says that the pandemic has made people don´t have nothing to be happy, and for this reason we are looking for others kinds of happiness: homem automation happiness.

rchante. The project also continues the same conceptual line that we find in all his career: a reflective painting around actual humans. These are not the only good notices for Pablo Merchante in 2020, he has also got
The Painting competition award Manuel Ángeles Ortiz, granted by the University of Jaén. He has received the second award thanks to his painting Madera y flores para Emilia (2020).
More than 166 artists have participated in the competition and only 30 paintings have been selected. 12 paintings will be exposed in the exhibition hall of the old teaching shool until march 12. It is a pride that Pablo has won one of the prizes among more than one hundred participants, highlighting his work.
Madera y flores para Emilia has the same characteristics than the rest of his paintings. The technique and colors used and been used in others paintings and they are part of his identity. Formally, Pablo Merchante seeks the combination of finishes, showing the tactile quality and the importance of tradition today, and these characteristics are present in this piece.
With these new achievements, Pablo Merchante continues en his artistic heyday and it´s an example that with passion and effort of his job, he has reached all he wanted, without alternatives, just doing art how he feel.
