    KIKO MIYARES

    Exhibition: 14 February – 15 April 2025.

SC Gallery proudly presents “La vida huracanada” (Life as a hurricane), KIKO MIYARES’ (Llanes, Asturias, 1977) first solo exhibition in this gallery. The exhibition is composed of a group of sculptures in wood and a painting on paper that offer a broad view of his most recent body of work.

Here we will not find allegories that drill our temples in a persistent and lacerating way about the end of History, the end of ideologies, the end of the great masters, the end of man himself or the end of all that has been and will be. NO. These ideas have become bourgeois and decaying, they have become a commodity product and an obsession among the most prominent of old-fashioned and outdated intellectuals. Going back to that would be stupid. Also, there isn’t any search for an identity narrative to help rectify the mistakes made in the context of distant, individual and deeply intimate histories. There is no intention of historical reconstruction or personal reparation, as this would be worthless. If there were any allegory, it would be the most buffoonish part of the ghost, the one that appears to laugh at you in your face and reminds you how absurd everything is and how guilty you are for contributing to the cause. But not even that, because here you even have to be suspicious of what any specter from the past might have produced.

About the artist KIKO MIYARES :

Kiko Miyares was born on April 27, 1977, in Llanes, Asturias. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Public University of the Basque Country.

With a background in painting, he has primarily accompanied his work with wood sculpture. The possibilities of representation have become a fundamental aspect of his work. The balance between the automatic and the planned has gradually evolved into a method that plays between manual labor and increasingly complex planning. The beings initially represented are transformed into raw material, into elements of construction.

    His latest exhibitions in 2024:

    • Art Taipei Taiwan, Dopeness Art Lab Gallery
    • Exhibition “Magnetic Undergrowth” Absolute Art Gallery, Belgium
    • Group Show “Private Life” Toxic Art London, UK
